The MAC Archive, now located at Shelsley Walsh, is the repository for all historical material associated with the Midland Automobile Club, right from its inception in January 1901. Over the years, former Secretaries and members of the Club have put aside items of interest and these have now been pulled together in the one location.

The majority of event records are associated with the hill climb meetings at Shelsley but all other Club activities are also covered such as the Birmingham Post Rallies of the 1960s, circuit races, gymkhanas, sprints, trials, Classic Section runs etc. All original results sheets are retained and, since 1952, all entry forms; before this date only about 50 forms survive. A large photographic archive exists and is continually being added to, both from present day meetings but also gifts from enthusiasts donating prints from the past out of their family photo albums.

The collection includes all the Club Minute Books from the very first formation meeting in 1901 to the present day but also features miscellaneous materials such as steward's armbands, tickets, posters and all the paraphernalia of running events. Club social events are also included in the archived material. In addition, we have received bequests from member's wills, particularly books and photographs, which although not always directly MAC-related, contain valuable historical information on motor racing and on the cars that have competed here.

The Archivist is happy to receive requests for information and research from these various sources in return for a donation to Archive funds.

Requests for research and photographs should be directed to or by writing to the Archivist at the Club Office.

The Archive is being continuously added to as today's event is tomorrow's history so that the continuity of the MAC's history is maintained in perpetuity.
